Pocket Guide To New Zealand

HEAD-NZKia Ora! New Zealand is one of the most beautiful countries I have ever visited and a personal favorite. I instantly fell in love the second we landed and have since been longing to get back. It is the place for all kinds of outdoor adventures and home to the making of Lord of the Rings movies. Here is my pocket guide for the one week that I spent in New Zealand visiting Queenstown and Auckland.

QUEENSTOWN

Queenstown is a city located in the southern island of New Zealand and it is certainly the most beautiful place I have ever visited. It is a beautiful charming city and going there with no expectations I was left mesmerized. New Zealanders call themselves for Kiwi’s after the national bird and it must be said that they are very friendly and laid-back people.

PARADISE

Book a day tour to witness breath-taking mountain and forest views along the shores of Lake Wakatipu towards Glenorchy. You get to drive past Paradise, a small village North of Glenorchy and see its beauty and movie location for Lord of The Rings. The surrounding area is used for sheep and cattle farmingDuring the entire trip I was talking about sheeps and wanted to pet one so bad. I have no idea why I’m so fascinated by the mammals, but sadly they didn’t fancy me at all, hah.

NEVIS BUNGY JUMP

When in New Zealand, you have to bungee jump! It is an amazing 134m drop and the tallest bungee jump in New Zealand. Prior to the jump I was all levels of frightened and had the biggest adrenaline rush. It was crazy fun and I would do it all over again!

THE-JUMP-COLLCENTRAL LAKESIDE

Wander around town will take approx. 10 minutes. Musicians are playing the most beautiful compositions and you have all the time in the world to just stop and take it all in. While listening you will find yourself at the Lakeside Promenade. It is simply magical. You get the best views of the mountains and can take the daily ferry boats out to explore the scenery.

· COOKIE MUNCHER · COOKIE BAR ·

The factory shop is a cookie lover’s paradise. Try New Zealand’ famous Chocolate Chunk Cookies for a warm gooey experience.

We woke up early for the bungee jump, so I wore a Cheap Monday sweater (here or black one here) for ultimate comfort when diving to the ground. Luckily the sun came out giving me a golden opportunity to use my new Ray-ban Clubmasters. I’ve always had a thing for the brand, but never got around to getting one until I tried it on. I love the sunnies because of the mirrored frame which makes it very chic and trendy.

GLENORCHY

This is a great tour not only for LOTR fans, but for anyone who wants to take in beautiful scenery while in Queenstown. You see rivers, lakes, forests, and get to have a picnic by the countryside. The drive is the best I’ve seen among my travels around the world, because the scenery is UNREAL. I have yet to explore the Norwegian nature and fjords hence why I fancy this place so much.

ALEX-&-OCEAN-COLLIMG_5541I am wearing a grey off-shoulder cropped sweater from Interval (similar here) over a torn coat from Never Denim. When I find clothes that are timeless and of quality I stick to it ’till the end. My outfit for Glenorchy is one of them. I get asked about the coat all the time, but it’s sold out, so I am on the hunt to find a similar one for you ♥ Grey waterfall coat similar here or cardigan here

FERGBURGER

In the heart of Queenstown is the best burger place to visit, Fergburger. Their popularity resulted in us waiting for almost an hour, but it has to be said that the line moved quickly and the system for orders was really efficient. It is well worth the wait and a highly recommended place to try when on visit.

ICE BAR

A unique bar made entirely from 20 tonnes of crystal clear hand sculpted ice, in the centre of Queenstown. Upon entrance, you get one drink from ice glasses filled with delicious cocktails. I ordered Happy Feet and it was chillin’ good.

AUCKLAND

The most populated city in New Zealand, Auckland is located in the Northern Island. It is a multi-cultural city which so much to offer in the urban areas.  I travelled with two of my girlfriends, April and June and we enjoyed a few days in the city eating fine-dining desserts at Milse, window-shopped Karen Walker sunnies and saw the sunset.

THE SHIRE HOBBITON MOVIE SET TOUR

If you are big fans of both Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit this is the place to be. The Shire is a picturesque private farmland and here you will see 44 Hobbit Holes, The Green Dragon Inn, The Mill, double arched bridge and more from the movies. It is unreal that Hobbiton is a real place in New Zealand and the best tour I went on as well. We got picked up at 6:00 am for the day trip and during the early mornings the winter fog is very thick and you can barely see 5 metres ahead. For a little while, I was upset that the weather conditions would ruin our day. But, to our luck the fog cleared out and we were blessed with sun and clear blue sky. It was all so exciting and a must-visit in Auckland.

The Velvet choker is a piece that I can’t take off. It is just perfect and look amazing when styled with any V-shaped top. My “Ricky” boots from Windsor Smith is a showstopper. They are so special that you can wear it to any outfit and still look stylish. The genuine real leather makes it a classic quality piece that I wear everyday. I recently got a new pair similar to the “Sharni” Boot for the times I want to reach a couple of inches taller.

PIHA BLACK SAND BEACH

Something a little more out of the ordinary is definitely the popular black sand beaches of Piha. The desert-like sand dune beside the beach is so smooth and delicate. My girlfriend actually took some of the sand to use it as a face scrub..

MOUNT EDEN

For the best views of the city you can go for a one hour power-walk from the CBD to the active volcano, Mount Eden. The crater is 50 meters deep and evolved from the last eruption. Here we chased the sunset and watched it gracefully set as the skyline of Auckland came to life.

WAIHEKE ISLAND

An incredible island just north of Auckland. You simply jump on a 45min ferry ride and my best tip would be to rent a bicycle once you’re there to get the most out of the island. Here we had the best gelato ice-cream and visited a winery. They have the most amazing oysters and it was so nice to get out of the buzzing city in exchange for a relaxed afternoon.
